The Lake County Dragon Boat Club (AKA Wun Fun Cru) is the premier Central Florida Dragon Boat racing team for all ages. We are a community of fiercely independent warriors, collectively possessing a certain magical magnetism that affects both friend & foe. Although feared, we have a unique talent for assimilating foreigners into our tribe- especially attracting those who display mercurial instability like ourselves. Our spirit as warriors is driven by our intense desire for rapid & sustained movement for the ultimate pursuit of glory & booty. Above all, it is our strong sense of honor & loyalty paired with our appetite for victory that makes us a powerful & undeniable force.

Who Are We?

Lake County Dragon Boat Club is a high spirited, fun loving yet competitive group of people who enjoy the dynamic & fast paced international sport of dragon boating. We are a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization that was born out of the desire to promote the healthy benefits of competitive dragon boat racing while also making contributions to charities that benefit our local community.

Dragon Boat Racing - The Basics

Dragon boat racing is a paddling competition featuring up to twenty paddlers, a steersperson, and a drummer.  Paddlers typically race in 44-foot-long canoes adorned with the head and tail of a dragon. The sport requires technique, endurance, precision timing, and teamwork. While the most common race is 500 m. and typically lasts just a couple minutes, races range from just 100 m. to 2000 m. Sprints typically take place on a straight course with clearly marked lanes, not unlike swimming races. The 2000-meter event has staggered starts and boats are not assigned specific lanes, but rather must navigate around bouys. The longer races feature challenging turns, and sometimes involve contact between some boats. Originating in China, dragon boating has gained a strong international following, and American teams are quite successful on the international stage. The Lake County Dragon Boat Club is proud to be part of that story, and are honored to be representing the United States at the International Club Crew Dragon Boat Racing Championship in Italy in 2024.
